Dear Members and Visitors,
Welcome to our web site. Dendy Park Tennis Club is one of the leading tennis clubs in Victoria and Australia, and one of the largest clay court facilities in the southern hemisphere with 19 courts.
The Club has a great history and traditionally we have been noted for our participation, competition teams, junior development and sense of community.
Dendy Park Tennis Club is the big club in City of Bayside. In a normal competition week we will have over 1000 players use the courts from schools, coaching classes, night competitions, junior competition and pennant.
The President and Committee work closely with Tennis Australia, Tennis Victoria and the City of Bayside to provide a quality environment for the enjoyment of tennis. The President and Committee ensure full compliance with Consumer Affairs Victoria requirements, including financial reporting. The Club is currently in robust financial condition, with our positive cash flow providing the basis for discussion with City of Bayside on improvement of facilties.
We have been home to some of the great Tennis Victoria Pennant players over the decades, winning many Men's and Ladies pennants at all levels. Our past Men's Club Champions include Albert Jacoby, Neale Fraser, Alan Stone, Will Coghlan, Terry Payton, Mark Hartnett, Andrew McLean and Paul Arber. Wimbledon Champion Ashley Cooper was unable to win the Club Championship in the 1950s such was the strength of the Club in that period. Our past Ladies Club Champions include Thelma Long, Lorraine Robinson, Lynne Nette and Wendy Pearson. Our most notable pennant wins in our history include:
- LTAV Men's A Grade Premiers 1948, 1968, 1970, 1974
- LTAV Woman's A Grade Premiers 1946, 1947, 1964, 1972
- Tennis Victoria Men's State Grade Premiers 1997
- Tennis Victoria Woman's State Grade Premiers 2002, 2003
Today we continue to be one of the state's strongest Tennis Victoria Pennant clubs, providing tremendous opportunities for adult and junior players to develop their game. Our Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday night tennis competitions are very popular. Our junior development program is one of the largest and best in Australia.
Dendy Park Tennis Club also does the work of charity and we have, with the support of Coles Supermarkets, established on our annual calendar a Charity Day supporting Cancer Council of Australia.
I and the Committee hope you find our web site informative and helpful in finding the opportunities for tennis participation you are looking for. I know also many past members in Australia and overseas watch our web site to keep in touch, and the Committee are grateful for this goodwill and ongoing interest as we take the Club forward.
Yours sincerely
Dr Tim O'Shannassy, PhD. FAIM.
